Organic Farming Conversion Scheme
Approximately 120 applications were received by the Welsh
Assembly Government during the recent window of application
in September. The majority were from farmers entering
conversion for the first time, as opposed to existing
organic farmers taking on new land. The total value of the
applications is more than the budget allocated, and
applications will be prioritised as follows:
1. Land used for
arable production in 2009,
2. Existing
agreement holders wishing to bring in additional land.
3. Expressions
of Interest submitted in March 2009 (including those
rejected).
This process will start shortly the Welsh Assembly
Government will inform farmers whether or not they have been
successful
by 1 December 2009.

Animal Health Plans:
OCW has commissioned a series of case studies to show how organic
and in conversion farmers have developed and used animal health plans
to help them meet the organic standards and improve the health and
wellbeing of their stock. To date, case studies have been completed
for dairy,
lowland beef and sheep and hill and
lowland
beef and sheep.
