Organic food for all at the
10th Abergavenny Food Festival
This year’s Abergavenny Food Festival will have a special focus on organic
food for the first time, with a range of activities organized by Organic Centre
Wales and sponsored by Rachel’s Organic and the Welsh Assembly Government. These
will include cookery in the Castle Grounds, a wide range of organic stands, a
masterclass, a live food debate and an Organic Festival Guide.
“Gerard Baker, the chef from the Radio 4 Food Programme, will be in the
‘Organic Food for All’ area in the Castle Grounds throughout the weekend
producing delicious meals from organic, local ingredients,” said Carolyn Wacher
of Organic Centre Wales, one of the organisers. “It’s a really popular place to
relax and eat, and the prices won’t break the bank, so it really is an area
worth visiting.”
Rachel’s Organic will also have a stand in the Organic Food for All area
where they will show-case their range of award winning products. Steve Clarke,
Marketing Director says "Rachel's Organic is delighted to be a sponsor of
Abergavenny Food Festival. It is a wonderful opportunity for Rachel's and we've
got some great new products for you to try, so if you plan to visit the
Festival, do come to our stand in the Castle Grounds.”
Free copies of an Organic Festival Guide will be handed out to visitors in
the car parks, and will highlight organic activities at the Festival as well as
listing places to buy organic produce all over Wales. “The End of the Road for
Cheap Food?” is the topic of a debate being held on Saturday in the Borough
Theatre at 5.00. Sponsored by Observer Food Monthly in association with Organic
Centre Wales, speakers include George Monbiot, Tim Lang, Kevin Morgan, Nic
Lampkin and Joanna Blythman.
Organic farming is growing fast in Wales, supported by the Welsh Assembly
Government’s Organic Action Plan. There are over 850 holdings and 145 processors
and importers who have organic certification throughout Wales, and many of them
are selling direct to the public, with entries in our 2008 Where to Buy guide.
