Rafael school meals in
north Wales, November 2006:
Pupils from two north Wales schools, Brynteg
Primary in Wrexham and Ysgol Esceifiog in Gaerwen, Anglesey, enjoyed
special school meals in November 2006. The meals featured local produce,
some of it organic.
Both schools chose roast beef, with plenty of
vegetables, and yoghurt or icecream and fruit to follow.
The school cooks worked hard to make it a special
occasion.

The schools invited special guests to the meal: Council staff, Councillors,
governors, parents, and of course the farmers who had grown the
food. |

|
The Wrexham pupils
had visited their local farmers' market to help choose foods for
their meal.
Then after the meal,
some of the food producers set up a farmers' market in the hall, and
pupils visited it to taste the foods. Parents came later and did
some shopping. |

Pupils at Ysgol Esceifiog visited a windmill to see
wheat being ground into flour to make biscuits for the meal. They also prepared invitations and menus in their IT classes, and
made a local food poster.
With thanks to: headteachers, staff and pupils of Ysgol
Esceifiog and Brynteg Primary School; Lavinia Vaughan of the Mid Wales
Food and Land Trust; the producers; the Healthy Schools Scheme; Wrexham
County Borough Council; Isle of Anglesey County Council; Menter Mon;
Wrexham Farmers Market and others. RAFAEL is an exciting

of the Atlantic coastal area of Europe, including the UK (Wales, England
and Northern Ireland), Spain, Portugal and France. It aims to create
opportunities for local producers and food businesses to supply new
markets, including local markets, tourism, public procurement and
interregional markets, using funding from the EU Intereg IIIB programme.
