Rafael school meals in
Wales, autumn 2007:
Pupils from Llandysul Primary School in Ceredigion,
Gungrog Infants School in Welshpool, and Ogmore Vale Primary
School in Bridgend enjoyed
local food school meals in the autumn of 2007. The meals featured local produce,
some of it organic.
At Llandysul and Ogmore Vale, the schools chose roast beef, with plenty of
vegetables. At Welshpool they had roast lamb. All three schools had
apple crumble for afters, some of them with icecream. At Llandysul, the
meal was entirely organic.
The school cooks worked hard to make it a special
occasion.
|
The schools invited special guests to the meal: Council staff, Councillors,
governors, parents, and of course the farmers who had grown the
food. |
|
At Llandysul, the
meal was followed by a farmers market in the school grounds.
Pupils visited the stalls and tasted the produce, and parents came later and did
some shopping. |

Pupils at Gungrog Infants School visited four
farms in one day to prepare for their meal. They also helped make the
crumble for the meal.
At Ogmore Vale, the Food for Thought team showed children how to make
cream into butter and wheat into bread. They also brought a cow for them
to see.
